This weeks theme is WARMTH. It’s been a pretty mild winter so far, but we did enjoy our first snowfall last weekend. And what could be better after playing outside in the snow? A steaming cup of hot cocoa. Yum!

Happy New Year! Welcome to 2012. I hope that it has been a good one for you so far!

I am SO excited about this new year finally being here! If I could sum up 2011 in one word it would be: transition. In June of last year my husband received a job offer we couldn’t say no to. It required a move 900 miles away from the only home our boys could remember… but it also moved us back to where I consider my home, the city of Baltimore. I grew up in this city … but college, our careers, and marriage moved us all around the east coast for the last decade. It took months to sell our home in Georgia and then find a new home in Maryland. We were in a state of limbo for the entire second half of last year and I cannot tell you how good it feels to be able to put our feet down, turn the page and start a new chapter in our lives.

And what good is a new year without a New Year’s Resolution? This year, I’ve resolved to get back to shooting for me. I’ve let my passion for photography fall by the wayside while my sometimes chaotic life as mama to 2 little boys got in the way. I can’t help but feel my creativity has suffered.

I’ve joined 2 groups of very talented photographers while I embark of 2 separate photography projects this year. The first is a Project 52, where I will shoot one photo a week based on a theme set by the group. The other project is called “10 on 10″ and if you come back on the 10th of the month you will get to learn all about that project!

The theme for Week 1 of my Project 52 is “New.”

So now I’m sure you are wondering… how on earth is a photo of a 60 year old home considered “new”??? Very simple, this is our new home. We searched high and low for this house all of last fall. We closed on it on Dec 15th and moved our stuff out of storage and into this house on Dec 16th. Yup, just 9 days before Christmas! The timing was hectic and we were wall-to-wall boxes for about 2 weeks, but the dust has settled now and it is already feeling like home to us. This house marks the beginning of our new life and new beginnings for our family.

This little guy was born just 2 weeks after my son Carson despite threatening his Mama with preterm labor for weeks! I think he and my son will be good friends! I was so honored to be asked to photograph him. Thank you for the opportunity!

It’s so hard for me to believe that my twin nephews are now ONE year old! It seems like it was just yesterday that they arrived as 5 pound babies born four weeks early. You’d never know it looking at them now… each weighing in at over 20 pounds, completely healthy and growing like weeds! Michael is now a walker and Ryan isn’t far behind him. They have they best personalities and I had so much fun with them when I got to see them a few weeks ago! Here’s a few photos of the big guys now:

I Heart Faces – Week 8

This weeks theme on the I ? Faces blog is “Hands” and I immediately thought of one of my favorite photos… It was taken waaaaaaaaay back at my very first portfolio building session! This teeny tiny hand belonged to 7 week old Bella. Bella was born 8 weeks premature and was definitely the smallest baby I’d ever seen or held, but she was such a dream to work with. She loved to sleep! Of course now she is now a very active, almost 2 yr old toddler so I’m not sure how much sleeping she is doing these days!!

The theme for this weeks I ♥ Faces photo challenge required to used their logo somewhere in your photo. I took this photo of my son the other morning and thought it would be perfect if I added one more “sticker” to the bucket he’s sitting in.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month | Georgia Think Pink Photographer

It was actually several weeks ago that I was accepted as a Network Photographer with the Think Pink Photography organization, but I wanted to hold off on sharing this news until today since October marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness month. I figured there would be no better time than today to get the word out. I am very proud and excited to be a participating photographer with this charity.

Think Pink Photo Sessions are available for any individual that has been diagnosed with Breast Cancer or completed treatment within the past 12 months. The goal of these sessions is to document the fight before or during treatment or to celebrate the victory when treatment is completed. Any person who qualifies for a Think Pink Session will receive the following items:

One complimentary portrait session
Ten 5×7 prints from your Think Pink Session
10% discount on any additional prints ordered

And, of course, what is a blog post without photos???

I know there is a lot to be said about the quality of these photos, but in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I wanted to share them with you today.

Several years ago, my mother-in-law’s best friend passed away after a long battle with Breast Cancer. My husband and I were so moved by her fight we wanted to do something to help. So in the summer of 2005, we spent 2 months training and raising money in support of the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure. That fall, we successful completed our first 5K in New York City. It was a proud and humbling experience for us. One we will never forget.
